Marissa Mayer of Yahoo Feared Prison
Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo, did an on-stage interview at a TechCrunch Disrupt conference in San Francisco California Wednesday and what she said puts a new light on the NSA Prism Program scandal.
Mayer was questioned as to why she can’t release the details of requests for information on Yahoo users by the NSA and possibly others US spy agencies. Mayer’s reply “If you don’t comply, it is treason…We can’t talk about it because it’s classified. Releasing classified information is treason and you are incarcerated. In terms of protecting our users, it makes more sense to work within the system.” Mayer went on to say that she feared winding up in prison for treason f she refused to comply with demands for data.
Whether this causes you to view Marissa Mayer in a more sympathetic light or just dislike the entire NSA Program even more, I think most people can see how this program and it’s possible repercussions are out of control and leaving everyone from the end-users to the CEO’s feeling powerless.
